Kitchen renovations are not for sissies.
Ok, there, I said it.
A kitchen renovation will test the best relationship, make you crazy and about half way thru, it will make you wonder why you even decided to take this on. I’m serious!
Why? Because your life will be upside down for about 8 to 12 weeks by the time it’s all said and done. It is not a one episode show folks!
Being prepared helps take some of the bumps out of the road…so here are things you need to know and my recommendations to make the process just a little easier.
You will not have a kitchen…so you will need a temporary kitchen set up.
Try to keep everything in one area & close to a sink. It may be the laundry sink or perhaps a bathroom sink, just remember you won’t want to run from one side of the house to the other to wash the dishes. That’s right…no dishwasher!
How will you cook without your stove? The BBQ and microwave will be your new best friends because going out and take out are not only expensive it is time consuming.
Where’s the fridge? Try to keep it close by… sometimes they end up in the garage while the temporary kitchen is in the basement. Think of the calories you’ll burn heading to the fridge.
Food storage…yes all of your cabinets are gone! If you have a shelving unit reuse it for food storage and the $ Store will be a great place to pick up containers for utensils, kids’ stuff, lunch bags and such.
If you use your kitchen as homework central you’ll need to make a new area where this can happen.
And last but not least if you have pets just remember they will be freaked out by the noise, strange people in their home and their routine being turned upside down. Always keep them secluded in a room that they can’t get out of with their bed, blanket, food, water and their favourite toys.
Oh…and don’t forget to take the “Before” pictures so you can look back and remember how bad your old kitchen really was.
